My House | Expedit Hack With O'verlays

For the last five years I have had these {now discontinued} Expedit side tables in my family room.  I loved them from the minute I saw them, simple, clean and has glass on top for easy cleaning!  5 years is a long time for me to stick to any one piece of furniture... so I started looking.  And looking, but I could not find anything I love that was in my price range, and was the right height.  So I was left with reinventing the ones I had.  In comes O'Verlays.  I am not the first designer/DIYer to use this product, but I have to tell you about my experience and how easy it was to do this!

Because the tables were melamine, I started with some Zinsser oil based primer.  Seriously this stuff will coat anything and make anything stick to it!  Once that was done I started in with 2 coats of color.  As you saw last week I thought blue was my choice.  I still really think the blue would have looked great, but I know I would have been bored with it sooner than the white.  I used a foam roller so not to have any brush marks.  Since I picked the white, I didn't have to paint the O'Verlays... Score!  But they are easily paintable with any sort of paint.

O'verlays can be cut to any custom size, so literally all of the work was done for me!  I chose the Pippa... who doesn't love a little bit of greek key in every room?
Once the paint was dry on the tables I used some Liquid Nails to adhere the O'verlay to the sides.  I will be honest and say that I didn't measure and just eye balled it, but I did check for level just in case my eye was having an off day... it rarely does ;).

Sorry for the picture overload, but I am super in love with them!  I love the white, and the added texture the greek key to the room.
Cheryle from O'verlays was a dream to work with!  Communication was easy, and their product is super simple to work with!  I have a few more projects planned... can't wait to get those started!

As I said... I am not the first DIYer to use O'verlays... what have you used them for?

Happy long weekend!

Thank you to O'verlays for providing me with the product.  The opinions are all my own.

I am using the same Overlays for a project right now! Very pretty! Did you have any trouble with seams in the overlays when you cut them down?
