My House | Black & White Striped Cane Barrel Chair

Do you ever have that project that you just can't seem to finish... well for me that has been my cane barrel chair!  This is not the first time I have tackled this chair... A couple years ago my MIL picked this chair up for me for $30!!
At the time I planned to use it for my desk chair and transformed it to this...
Since it was my desk chair it got some heavy use!  The white {that I did not protect with a clear coat started to see the wear and the fabric no longer fit my design scheme.  I thought about donating it, but I just couldn't part with such a classic chair that was a steal!
So I started by taking off the old fabric and painting the chair black... I had purchased this fabric for this chair thinking it would be a great pop of graphic pattern, but I think it was a little too much for the chair.  Plus at the time I had my black and white striped curtains in this room... it was a little too much!  But once I decided to use the panels in my bathroom I was free to add some stripes!

If you follow me on Instagram {savvydesign} black and white stripes {and stripes in general} make me happy!  I am not sure what it is about them... but I smile!  I made the piping to match the stripes and I love the contrast on the bottom.  I also left the tufting out of the back cushion... they would not have worked with the stripes.  This made the chair a very simple wrap and staple job!

I decided to streamline the cushion by combining the bottom seat an the cushion into one... and less sewing!  The stripes worked nicely on the corners!

The chair floats in my living room and is the perfect size, and now statement!  The garden stool I picked up at Lowes for a steal!  I sprayed it white... and am debating adding a little gold detail.
