Fiddle Leaf Fig Take 2 & 3 | HELP!!

A trend that I just can't get enough of is the fiddle leaf fig tree!

Big beautiful and bushy...
I am in love with this tree... but it does not love me!

Last November I picked up 2 small fiddle figs at Ikea for $12.99!  I was so excited!  I have been able to keep several other house plants alive...  {Alright that is a lie... the hubs is the one that waters the plants!  If he didn't, I would forget and kill them!}  But even so, I didn't think this one would be any different!  This is the last one I have of the 2 from Ikea... and it is not happy.  I am trying to bring it back... fingers crossed.

But the other day I was catching up on my blog reading and Katrina from Chic Little House debuted her refinished campaign dresser and I spied a little fiddle fig in the corner.  She said that she picked it up at Home Depot for $15.99!  I seriously got in my car and drove there!

Mine store had 3!  I purchased the best 2 and ran back home.  Then yesterday I was walking by and I see this...

I have already started killing it!  Granted they need to be placed in pots, but I have owned them for less than a week!

I decided to do some research and really learn how to take care of this plant.  I found a great care sheet via Modern Jane HERE.  It seems like I just need to keep it moist and turn it every week.  I have set a reminder in my phone... or I would totally forget!  But as long as they stay alive I am thinking of fun ways to plant the mini fiddles!

I love the pot Jane used and made it a table top plant!  And I like how Ashely gave it height with a garden stool!  Both great ways to show off a mini fiddle!

Do you have any advice for me on how to care for my fiddle?  ANYTHING would really help!

Mine has done really well, it only gets a few hours of direct sun, maybe two - three? It gets indirect light for several more hours..... I give it a really light watering 1 - 2 x a week. I think it is important to let the soil dry out between watering, rather than constant moisture..... Not to confuse maters... I hope yours do well this time around!

I also love the fiddle leaf fig and bought one at Ikea for the $12.99 in the Spring and it's thriving. I read not to put it in direct sunlight, but in a room with full sun (think southern exposure), so that's what I did. I think that's been key for mine. I do also turn mine every week and water it every few days. One of the most important things I read was that the roots are at the surface, so you should just spray them with water for no more than 4 seconds, every few days. I give a light amount of water and careful not to oversoak and get the soil soggy. I really just want to get the roots at the surface some water and that's it. It's grown over a foot since I've had it and continues to thrive. And I also throw in a plant feeder every few months too.

Oh, and one last thing....WIPE THE LEAVES!! The leaves are how they obtain their nutrients from the sunlight and you shouldn't let them get dusty or they can't adsorb well. I love wiping my leaves down and talking to my plant while I do it. Kind of obsessed with my fiddle leaf fig:)

Love the Fiddle Leaf Fig! So sorry to see yours doing poorly...but I have heard they are VERY temperamental. At least Home Depot has the one year guarantee...I have seen people bring in empty pots for a refund when their plants die. Good Luck!

Oh my I'm crossing my fingers your FLF trees start thriving!! The first one I have has been doing really good, I water it once a week and so far it likes the corner in my LR ~ I also picked up another one at Ikea last Friday for my bedroom...I was looking for small one (they have none) I ended with a med. size one and placed in my bedroom, so far so good! I'll share pics soon :)

Thanks for sharing my little fiddle leaf! Mine is also a Home Depot find and super hypersensitive! I read that the leaves start to brown if it is being over watered. So whenever a little brown starts showing, I trim it off to give me a gauge of if it continues to get too much water. I have had mine for about two months and have only watered twice. I heard it is good to let it dry out then water. I don't know though. It's hanging in there! I am sure it is just a matter of time of it developing and getting accustomed to the atmosphere. Crossing my fingers both of ours make it!!! :)

So I read that fact sheet you linked to and it was the exact opposite advice I found! So I researched a little more...so if it is over watered, the bottom leaves will turn brown and drop. If under watered, the new leaves will turn brown and drop. Comp. Li. Cated!

I did a 'HELP' post for mine not long ago, too! :( I think I was over watering, I've eased up but can't tell yet if it's helping. They're tempermental for sure!
