How To | Monogram Striped Welcome Mat

Last week I shared my front yard decor for The Outdoor Extravaganza Link Party.  I had a bunch of elements that I liked, but didn't really have them put together to my liking.  I had picked up THIS welcome mat from Target, but the color was throwing me off.  I wanted some thing unique, but still modern and simple.  So I decided to make my own!  I started with a simple mat from Ikea for $8.99...

Then I made my own M stencil from a large 300 font size M printed out then cut out.  Then I traced the M on a cardboard box, and using my box cutter I cut the M out.

Once I decided on the pattern... I wanted black and white, but I also like the natural grass color I taped off my lines.  I used the blue 1 1/2" for the neutral and the green 2" for the black and white stripe.  Once all taped off remove the tape for the first color.  I started with black, but after doing it I would start with the lightest color first.  Once it has a small time to dry {like 5 min} lay the tape back down and pull up the tape for the dark color.  If you spray as directly down as possible, the color should not run under the tape.

A little modern with the graphic stripes and a little traditional with the monogram...
Pure love!

Love this idea. Last week after I saw your entry I felt like mine could use a mat. I may have to make (another) stop at ikea.

Super cute! So lucky to have an "M" to monogram. Somehow "O" just doesn't have the same appeal! I love your door color too!
