His vs. Hers Cocktail Table

It never fails as a designer to have a situation where the husband has given the go-ahead to the wife to make the design decisions.  Most of the time I will meet with the wife, present my selections and I will say something like "well talk to your husband and let me know what he thinks."  And then the client wife will reply, "oh he doesn't care, he said I could pick whatever I like the best."  Most of the time that is music to my ears... but there is always one item in every project the husband will decided he has an opinion about.  And of course I welcome it... until it is my husband!

Typically the hubs gives me full decision power on design for our house.  I always run ideas by him, and see if he likes it or not.  Most of the time he doesn't have an opinion.  But when he does it always seems to be on something I have had my mind up on, decided I really want, and then he tells me he doesn't like it!  This is the case currently with our decision on our cocktail table for our family room.

If you don't remember... here is the current state of our family room

The hubs argument is that we have a lot of straight lines and thinks that we need to have some curve.  I don't disagree with them, but I think my pick has curve with the waterfall edge, but also compliments the linear features in the room.  To be honest I love both selections... His was what I had picked first.  But after some thought I really have gravitated to the waterfall lucite.

What one would you pick and why?
{I promise if you pick the His option I won't hold it against you!}

His. Definitely his. The lucite table is just a clump of lucite with no style.

I agree that I like his! Which seems hypocritical since I have a lucite table myself, but I feel lucite is better fit for "hollywood regency" and I loooove the mid century you have going on and think the table would just add something unique.

OMG, you and I are outnumbered here lady. I'm so with the lucite, because of the waterfall edge. But looks like the hubs will win this smack down.

I have to go with the flow on this one & say his (or originally yours) as well. My reasons are: 1- I just feel the style of the piece simply fits better in your space. 2- I always feel a lucite table works the absolute best in a space that is smaller/tighter & needs the visual breathing room. Your space is open & roomy. IMHO it needs a little visual "weight" to balance/center that area and the wooden base is just enough to do that & yet you still get the benefit of the glass top (so similar to the lucite, but so much better fitting in this case).
HTH!

while your room does have lots of curves in the wingbacks, the bar stools and the lamp I must choose his version. the base will weight it down a bit and add a masculine touch. this is why I never give my husband a vote and, fortunately, he doesnt want one! You are lucky that your hub has good taste
