House Goals 2013

This will be the first full year in our new house and I have some big plans for it.  Not only do I want to make my house pretty, I would like to start on our backyard which came totally un-landscaped.  Sadly none of these things are free, so maybe I should name this list "House Goals for 2013-14, 15, 16" HA!!!

Never the less I do have 12 months to slowly pull my house together... As I want it, so on to the list!

1. Design my house for me and not the trends or because I write an Interior Design blog.

Over the last couple years I have been writing this little blog I have done most thing because I love them and that is me and not anyone else.  But blogland has also exposed me to other trends I have tried and then realized they are not me.  For my new house I really want to focus on what I love, what is timeless to me, and choose things that will stay in my house for a long time.  Don't get me wrong, I will want to change things just because, but I am hoping to get the foundation built.

2. Complete My Family Room
When we moved in we had a plan: do the kitchen and the family room right away.

I am so excited to have a new amazing kitchen, but the family room is only halfway done.

I actually have purchased material to make my pillows, cornice boards, and drapes... but for some reason I have not felt the urge to pull the sewing machine out and make anything!

I would like to tackle reupholstering my Eames lounge chair.  The seat was worn this way when we purchased it 5 years ago {at a garage sale for $10!!!} so I knew the day would come when it would wear out.  I just need to find the right color of leather...

Since we have moved in, we have been living without a cocktail table.  Though several of my friends do not have a cocktail table and it looks great, I am a person that needs to have a cocktail table.  The more I look at the Noguchi table the more I think I just want this exact one.

3. Transform my grandmother dining table and chairs

I want to paint the table and chairs out in a black lacquer and reupholster the chairs to matching fabric.  Again... all things I have bought, just can't seem to pull the trigger and get it done!

4. Compose my Entryway.

I love having an actual entry way when you walk in a house.  I would like to add some sort of wall stencil or maybe wallpaper and really make the entry wow.  It will be the room that sets the tone for the rest of my house.

5. Start the boys and master bedrooms.

Last year I completed the One Room Challenge with doing my master bedroom.  I felt like I would be getting a jump start on my new house design and design most of it to move into the new bedroom.  Well of course over the last year I have decided to change some things... so a little work to be done there.  The boys rooms will be completely from scratch.  I have ideas for both rooms, but really nothing is in place to work off of.  And just like me if I asked them what sort of room they wanted now it may change in 6 month when I get to it... wonder where they get that from?  HA!

6.  Install glass shower doors in the boys bathroom.
Simple and easy... just need to do it!

7.  Organize my house.
I am an pretty organized person and I am not one to keep a lot of clutter, but when it came to unpacking I was more focused on just getting the boxes gone than actually setting up a system.

8.  Have a useable backyard

We have a huge lot so it is almost like having 3 different backyards.  Nothing about this is going to be inexpensive... so it will take up a couple years to complete it to our vision.  But some concrete for a patio and a place for the kids to play and not be in the dirt would be a nice start!

SO there you have it... my house goals of 2013!
Now that I put it all out there guess I better get busy!

Wow, that's a lofty list. I'm glad you mentioned sticking to your own style. It is easy to get sucked into blogland! Can't wait to follow along and see all the transformations.

can't wait to see all that you do! I love that you said design for yourself and not your blog, I am guilty of shopping for the blog instead of me sometimes, I am using that as a resolution too! happy new year!

Sounds like an exciting list for your new house. You should not feel pressured to get it all done in a year and of course, like you mentioned, it comes down to the $$. All in good time!

I think this is the hardest part ... we are so exposed to so many different styles and trends ... hard to just focus on what is really right for us!! And our clients!! I am joining you in this goal!! Your kitchen is FAB!!! xo

That is a long list you can do it...one step at a time. Love the entry...and even though you already have a cute little guy decorating it :) I am looking forward to seeing what else you decide to add. I added a large repeating stencil in mine last year and I still love it! See pics here
Gonna be a busy year!

Great goals!! I also need a cocktail table and love the idea of marble on metal legs...hubs thinks it will be too heavy (he may have a point...). Good luck with everything!
