I am sure you have seen this image floating around Pinterest. I have had this idea pinned for over a year... and finally got around to doing it! I used the canvas I had on hand from this art project.
I pulled out some latex paint from my stripes to cover the canvas and finished the edges with some festive red.
Then I drew out a rough template for where I wanted the lights to go. Then I raised the canvas up with some books so there was a little room to push the holes through.
At first I used a small flathead screwdriver and a hammer to puncture the holes from the front. I was doing this at nap time so I used a felt pad to quiet the banging, but the canvas popping was loud enough. About halfway through I just used my weight and pushed the screwdriver through. That went much faster!
I started the lights on the top and worked my way across then down the board.
Close to the end...
You will never guess how many lights this took! 260!!! But the finish product is so fresh and simple... I just love it! I used the other canvas from that art project to update the boys Countdown to Christmas Activity Calendar.
I used the same clips I made from last years cal, and applied the same paint to the canvas. I picked up these white coin envelopes and used some left over blank business cards for the activities.
Simple. I love it.
If you haven't noticed I collect nutcrackers. I like to pick one up each year that either boys choose or that was relative to our year. Last year they picked out this one... and the one above was my parents and has to be about 20 years old!!
Do you collect any holiday items?
I am almost done decorating my house... can't wait to share!
