Today marks the first week we have officially been living in "the new house" as my boys like to call it!
Though I have not made nearly enough headway on unpacking all my boxes, we did take a few days after we moved in to give our stock contractor grade kitchen a little facelift.
Most people move into a brand new house and love everything. But not me... Upon getting keys we were ripping out cabinets and demoed the tiny 4" standard backsplash! This is as close to the kitchen of my dreams as I am going to get in this house and I couldn't be happier! If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram you have seen the durning pics.
Here is the reveal...
My number one complaint in this kitchen was the micro hood over the range. I can not stand when the microwave becomes the focal point. So we relocated the microwave to the pantry and installed a beautiful stainless hood.
This is were we ripped out the existing bank of cabinets and installed open shelving. I love the impact of the tile going to the ceiling. It is mimicked over the range. A totally simple feature for just a few more bucks and it totally opened up the space!
I love the contrast of the white tile and the dark cabinets! Aside from the hood {which we ordered from an appliance store} all of these items were purchased at stores straight off the shelves!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
I will be unpacking the never ending stack of boxes!

Wow!! Its so beautiful! I love the open shelving, I can imagine it makes the space feel so much larger. Are you still thinking of painting the pantry door? I love that idea!
It's absolutely beautiful Tiffany! Love the backsplash and all your styling. You work fast!
This looks amazing!!!
THIS IS PERFECTION!
You did a fabulous job of turning the contractor standard kitchen into a gorgeous "Custom" Kitchen.
A++++++++
Wow looks so nice!
Tiffany! That backsplash is incredible. The whole kitchen looks so custom, love it!!
I love EVERYTHINg you did, the tile, the new hood, the open shelving, it's all awesome. Most people would be timid about ripping out new brand new cabinets. You are one bold lady with a vision. Very clever how you inset the before pics. with the after. Great job!!
OK seriously, this is MINI??? As in a SMALLISH makeover? Girl I would kill to see what you consider a full-blown makeover because this is awesome! I love everything about it and it looks like a completely custom kitchen. Great job!
Looks so good Tiff! You have made simple changes that really have high impact!
Wow! love the tile. Where did you get the tile and the cool stainless shelves?
It looks awesome!!! You must be so happy! Love the tile! Looking forward to seeing the unveiling of more to come!
Your kitchen is A-MAZING! Love the tiles all the way to the ceiling and the open shelving is so freaking awesome! Your kitchen looks like a million bucks! Beautiful! Congrats, btw! :)
Wonderful! I really appreciate that you didn't paint the cabinets white; its nice to see examples of non-white kitchens that are inviting and full of style. Very savvy design choices for the makeover :)
Gorgeous..... I love the way the dark cabinets look against the backsplash and light countertops .
this is amazing inspiration. in fact, after work i asked the boyfriend if there's anywhere else we can put the microwave so that i can run tile all the way up like you did...but there's really not. this is seriously amazing, and i will be storing it away for when we finally do our kitchen. what is that tile called and where did you get it? what granite is that? please help me out with those names. thanks!
Your kitchen is gorgeous! I'm so glad to be following you, love your blog:)

What an amazing kitchen you have. I really love your shelving and backsplash. :) Megan
I love the backsplash. We have the same tile in our kitchen, just different colors. You can see a little of it here:

I also hate the microwave over the range. So I'm still wondering why I had one put in over the range in our kitchen! I think about relocating it all the time; you may have just inspired me to bring the topic up with my hubs....he will be THRILLED! :)
That is one gorgeous kitchen!
tiffany - this looks fantastic!! ok i have some questions. Where did you find those stainless shelves? I love how minimal the brackets are, and given that you have lots of items on them, they look like they can hold some weight? I need something that is functional, not just for little lightweight stuff. Are these like that? They look substantial enough :) Secondly - great job on the tile! I'm so loving it. I love how subtle it is!
What a huge impact your mini makeover has made. I will be featuring it tomorrow night at my Fall into Fall party that opens at 8pm EST. Please stop by and pick up an I've Been Featured button. Thanks.
Beautiful! I like that you removed some cabinets for open shelving. It really opens up the space. I'm like you, I love light tile and counter against dark cabinets.
This is so timely. I am getting ready to work on my kitchen and was looking for some open shelves. Do you mind sharing the source? Also, did you add lighting under the lowest shelf? It is clever, timeless and with purpose. Thanks for sharing
I love the backsplash! Where did you get the barstools?
Absolutely gorgeous! I have been wanting to do something similar with the hood and tile going up to the ceiling but I don't want my microwave on my counter : ( Do you guys even have a microwave? And I would have never thought to rip out cabinets to put in shelves. LOVE it! I might have to steal your ideas and convince my hubby to let me do it in our kitchen : )
