5 Favorites Of Fall.... Primitive and Proper

Please welcome Cassie from

Happy Fall!  I am Cassie from Primitive and Proper and I am so excited to be here as a guest on Tiffany's blog today talking about my absolute favorite season, Fall!  Tiffany has asked me to write about my 5 favorite things about Fall.  With it being my favorite season, I have had a really hard time taking my list of 957 things I love about Fall to just 5.  So these are like "the super top 5 of Fall".

1. ORANGE in home decor!  I love bringing orange in, whether naturally as in pumpkins, or with textiles or paint.  Last year we moved into our home in the Fall, and I attacked the back of some bookcases with orange paint....

I also filled some little milk glass vessels with mini pumpkins and gourds last year to bring in some of the orange...

How can one not smile at the sight of those cute lil pumpkins?!?  Yeah, go ahead and try... not possible.  You are smiling, aren't you?

2. Chrysanthemums.  I love how they smell, I love how they look, I love everything about them.  They scream "Fall" to me!  The exterior of my house is not ready for Fall until there are pots of mums around!

3. Apple Crisp.  My favorite dessert of all time!  In my house it's always in season, but for the rest of America it might be considered more of a Fall food.  My recipe is so simple and it came from my mom. I really don't know where she got it from, but it's easy and delicious!  And my secret is that I don't use Granny Smith which are typically used in baked apple dishes.  My secret weapon is my favorite Golden Delicious apples.... YUM!

Ingredients:
About 6 apples, peeled and cut into pieces.
1/4 c water
1 Tbsp cinnamon
1/2 c softened butter
1/2 c flour
1 c sugar
1 c oats

Place apples in the bottom of a casserole dish or baking pan.  Sprinkle with water, then cinnamon.  In a bowl, mix together all other ingredients with a fork until crumbly and spread over apple mixture.  Bake at 350 until golden brown, about 40 minutes.  Let it cool and then stuff your face and enjoy!

4. Plaid Flannel in both fashion and home decor.  Frankly, I don't know if you can call what I wear "fashion" but that's beside the point!  I grew up in New England, where plaid flannel is a staple.  And I should also add it was during the early 90's when I was in middle and high school, sporting the awesome flannel grunge look.  Nowadays, I prefer a much more feminine plaid flannel.  I love to sport plaid tunics with jeans or leggings.  Something like this...
City Style Plaid Tunic...

And in home decor, it just screams cozy!  I pinned this roundup of rooms with plaid just the other day.  This one is sweet and simple, and that plaid blanket just makes the room!

5. Morning Walks with my dog, Jake.  I love everything about it.  I love the gray skies, the golden, red, and orange blazing leaves, the smell of the leaves, the fresh air on my cheeks, and the time to reflect.  I do a lot of my serious thinking when I am out on my walks.  We live out in the country, so it's just beautiful this time of year!  This picture does not do it justice because it was taken with my phone one morning last year, but here is a scene from my walk....

Aside from those solitary walks with the dog, I also like to get my kids out for fresh air at our local walk of the scarecrows!  We have silly moments together...

And sweet moments....

So there are 5 of my just 957 favorite things about Fall!  Come back to my blog tomorrow where I will reveal the remaining 952.  Just kidding. ;)

I'm totally digging the plaid & apple crisp & walks along country lanes :-) Fall is a great season - it's just too bad that it's followed by winter! ;-)

Tiffany, thanks for the introduction to Cassie and her blog :-)

What a great post. I made apple crisp last week for some German visitors (had to show them authentic American food :)) and they loved it. I did too as well as how good it made the house smell!

Those sweet moments with your kids are the best. I love orange in the decor, and this fall is a perfect way to sneak it in if you haven't used it already. I love flannel and apple crisp! Have a great weekend Cassie and Tiffany ( and families)
