Well hello all! Did everyone have a great holiday weekend?
I am so happy to be back in the world of blogging! It was sort of nice to take a break from the blogoshpere for the last couple of weeks, but it would have been better if it was on an all-inclusive beach with drink service... ha! But non the less, keys have been turned in for the rental, crossing our fingers we get most of our deposit back, settling into my parents house, and starting to get back into a routine!
When I checked with you all in last week, I mentioned we had a large hiccup. I have not been wanting to post about my house because we were sure we would not get the house based on an error that was made during our short sale 3 years ago. And no short then 45 days before we were suppose to apply for our house loan it has made it way out of the woodwork to reck havoc in our lives. But, lawyer on our side, we are good to go! So on to the update and our plans to make the stock kitchen custom!
Here is what it looked like last update:
And now it looks like this:
We have cabinets {and since they installed granite and appliances... but I have been too busy to take any new pics}! But anyways, here are our plans:
We both HATE over the cooktop microwaves. Now don't get me wrong, they have their place and they are totally functional, but if I have the option I would never choose it. So we are going to rip out the built in, install one in the pantry {out of site!! YAY!!} and install a stainless steel vent hood!
Then on the other wall we are going to take down the upper cabinets and move them to the laundry room {it was $650 for upper cabinets in laundry room! So savvy me is recycling!!} and we will install open shelving! I am so very excited about that, but even more exciting there is going to be the tile wall that will be behind it.
I am so in love with this tile! It is going to look amazing up the whole wall!!
Another think I loath about stock cabinets is this totally retarded half shelf!! I have been told many times durning my cabinet training from the orange box, that it is to accommodate larger, taller items. WHAT? Still just seems to me that they are trying to be cheap and are screwing me out of half of a shelf! We are planning to extend the shelf and then install pull outs on the bottom.
We also have cabinets in the bathrooms! And paint... it is a little more beige then I wanted, but after seeing it with the granite and flooring I am really digging it!!
I am so excited to pull together the design for all of the rooms...
I have not decided how to tackle the house?
I personally want it all done right away, but I know it is going to take some time and lots of $$ so how would you do it?
1. one room at a time start to finish
or
2. a little here and a little there

Haha!! Bet you're feeling so much better about it all now!
Love the open shelves idea and using the cabinets in the laundry - super savvy;-)
We planned to do our reno's at home one room at a time but it's worked out more of a little here and a little there...we kinda have to go with the flow in regards to $$ and timing etc. we know we'll get there eventually!! You will too!!
Looking good! Wouldn't it be nice to have no budget? Then again, your options would be limitless and it might slow down your decision making skills-just trying to make you feel better, lol!
it is looking so good! love that tile!
Love your plans for your kitchen. And the reuse of the upper cabinets for the laundry room...genius! Having worked as a new construction Realtor, I know how those "options" can add up! You are doing it the smart way.
Tackle projects that fit in your budget as you go along and use that budget on projects that have the highest priority to YOU. Don't do it all at once. Live in the house and see how it "works". You might be surprised at how you think of doings things differently.
Have fun...it's a great adventure!
I really like your plans for customizing the kitchen. As far as how to tackle rooms, I found when we bought our house (it was a spec home) I tried to focus on one room at a time, but sometimes you find items at a good deal for other rooms that you can't pass up. Make a list and carry it in your purse so you know what your priorities are.
Can't wait to see things unfold! Best of luck!
Can't wait to see the final outcome! Love those tiles.

Not a fan of the word retarded (this is a total understatement)...
So exciting, Tiffany! It's really coming along. You've got great ideas, and I'm with you on the microwave, for sure. I think if you can have your kitchen and laundry room finished, then tackling rooms as they go, as money is available, is a lot less stressful. Shauna made a good point about carrying the list around - you just never know when that perfect 'thing' or perfect deal will pop up!
Looking good! Depending on the room and the project, we tend to a bit here and there, unless it's the kitchen which I would finish first. :)
I would recommend installing the tule vertically (instead of the normal horizontal direction) just to change it up. Looks pretty high end :) Of course horizontal would look nice too
Love the variation in the tile - it will look stunning! I would work on one room at a time - prioritize the rooms. In this way you will be certain to complete the projects and not leave them incomplete indefinitely.
The house is looking awesome! It's gotta be a great feeling. Tackle those rooms on at a time. If you're anything like me, you might go crazy feeling like nothing is finished.
All your plans sound amazing. I love the tile!
I'm a big fan of tackling one room at a time starting with the rooms you use the most... kitchen and family room. I've been really glad that we've done that. Once you get those two rooms done, it gives you a place to feel like you're home even if the rest of your house is in chaos.
