Wingbacks As A Dining Chair

About a year ago I took on reupholstering my one of my wingback chairs that my mom had given me...
{see tutorial HERE

I wanted a fun and funky fabric because I was trying to break up all of the brown and white of the room so I settled on this combo!  I have loved it... considering the before:

Floral chintz, rose, and burgundy... so not my style.  My mom's, circa 1987!  But I only did one, since I was only using one in the house.  I knew that when we moved I would redo the other one.. I even ordered  this fabric for the second chair.  But now I am over it!  As I have said before I want to move back to a neutral palette with pops of color, but this is TOO much of a pop.  Plus I want to use these chairs as dining chairs at the head of my formal table.  So the fabric hunt is on.. stay tuned!

What is your thoughts on wingbacks as dining chairs?  Here are some examples:

Ok... Discuss amongst yourselves!  And also... suggestions for fabric combos?

Love the wing backs at the table!! I've never seen this and how cool does it look in a big room?!
Love the deep charcoal with the white piping - I have something similar in the works, just not on wing backs!;-)

Love the idea. I think white with some high contrast piping, like navy, would look fab.

I think they are gorgeous! I can't wait to see what colors you pick. Also, I was going to email you about this so crazy how you posted about your wingback chairs, I'm going to my mom's for a week and I really wanted to redo her wing back chairs. Do you think two in one week is biting off too much? Thanks so much, your blog always inspires me!

I'm crazy about the idea! I have one wing back chair with 4 side chairs at a 60" round table in our dining room. It really makes a statement and adds tons of interest!

I think wingbacks make a great dining chair, as long as they're not too heavy to slide in and out. Fingers are crossed for you on the fabric hunt!

I like that idea! Of course if I had a bigger dining room it would look great. I'm actually having a wing back chair professionally reupholstered as we speak. But it won't be ready til a few weeks. Can't wait to see yours :)

Love the idea of wingback dining chairs in a large enough dining room! Ours is getting on the crowded side, with a table, chairs, piano and china cabinet, of course. ;)

For fabric, what if you left the coral color on the front, and replaced just the super-bright back fabric? Maybe if you found an ikat in the same color & white, or even something gray and white? Or, simple and sweet - white linen (or cream) on the back, leave the printed piping and coral front?
