Our House - Update

Happy Monday to you all!  Was your weekend productive?  Mine was sure NOT!  Which was fine by me... I was in need of a break from the bubble wrap and cardboard feeling on my hands!

Even though I was not actively packing this weekend it was a different story at my new house!  They have painted and added the finish molding {which they did first... before everything else.  It is called finish molding for a reason right?} anyways... and today they will be installing the cabinets!!!
Months ago we were able to select our upgrades and finishes so I thought I would share some very bad pics I snapped with my iPhone when we were in the design center.

This is the color we are going to have the whole house painted.  Now before you all jump over me there was only 4 colors to pick from.  This is by far not even close to what I wanted, but it was the least brown or beige of them all.  I have seen it on the wall in person and it really tends to read a little more grayish than beige.  I wanted the walls to be painted when we moved in so white wouldn't be staring me down, but I am sure over the next year or so I will make a few changes to the color of the walls. ;)

Even though we are DIYers there are just some things I don't feel we should have to change in a brand new house for at least 10 years.  A kitchen is one of them!  We upgrade the cabinets to a simple shaker style with dark stain and added bronze {pretty much the same color of the cabinets} hardware through out the house.  We also upgraded the color of granite to Bianco Romano.

But for the things like flooring we pretty much stuck with the stock options because that IS something we can change sooner and for a lot less money than the upgrade amount is.  What they are charging for hardwood is just plain theft!!!

We were also allowed to "approve" our granite slabs before fabrication.  They tell you that you will be selecting your granite at the granite yard and that is so far from the truth!  Having spent many hours with clients sorting through all of the granite slabs to find just the perfect ones is what granite selection is... not walking out to see 3 chosen for you!  Luckily I had no problem with them and I even asked really nicely if I could spec where the sick cutout would be in the island.  He said I could "suggest" but he could make no promises... HA!  Actually they were some of the best Bianco I have seen in a long time.  Great vaining with a lot of character!

The hubs and I found this tile a few months back at... wait for it.... Costco!!
It was $5 a sqft!!!!  We loved it and bought enough for the current backsplash and future minor kitchen remodeling {I said I didn't want to change the cabinets... removing is a different story.  More on that later}. I am so excited to see the whole combo together!

ooh exciting!! Bummer about only having 4 colors to choose from though. Easy to change down the track though if you so desire!

You did great! I can speak from a little experience. I "was" that Builder's Agent that showed you all your "standard" items and then moved you into the "selection" area to UPGRADE. You did it very smartly! The pre-finished wood flooring that most builders offer is way over priced, and the carpet selections are not worth upgrading. Better to select the standard and upgrade later!!! Also less, much less expensive. The theory that you can get upgrades cheaper through builders is not usually the case. I found most builders added up to 30% to their cost. I love your cabinet and hardware choices!! The granite is gorgeous. We didn't give buyers a choice of any "slabs". You just chose which one you wanted...no going to pick the slab!! Have fun...because it is exciting and can be a fun experience.

I love what you've done so far - this is so exciting!!! I can't believe its almost time to move. I'm sure it is so thrilling to go over there and see all the progress they've made. Can't wait for more pics!! :)
