Hi my name is Courtney and I'm addicted to spray painting.
Newly addicted, to be accurate!! And I love, love, love it!!
I post about vintage furniture re-designs I've done, DIY projects and plenty more over at my blog - The Apprentice Extrovert. I'm so excited to be guest posting today here for Tiffany on her wonderful Living Savvy blog!!
So lets talk spray paint!!
Until recently, I only had a minor relationship with spray paint. I have spray painted a few smaller furniture pieces early on in my DIY career, but it wasn't until I did this one that I learnt a couple of things -
Firstly, I discovered that cane furniture really soaks up paint!
Then I found $3 cans of spray paint in the discount store (I'm in Australia :)) AND discovered that it works just as well as the $13 can from the hardware store I'd been getting it from!!
Four for the price of one...score!!
Next I saw Tiffany's post spray paint projects from goodwill and saw how easy it was to totally transform smaller, ugly things into something contemporary and worthy of putting on display!
I'm sorry Tiffany, that owl in his before state was UGLY!!
There's no way I would have ever given that owl a second glance and after a spray of white, he turned out so amazing!!
So I thought, 'Hmm...what have I got around here that I could totally transform?'
I found a few things here and also hit the thrift stores and found these -
You can check out how awesome the lamps turned out right here!
As for the handmade pottery vessels I seem to have collected lately -
They got a spray with white gloss x two coats. Easy!!
Perfect for my desk!! Love things that are one-of-a-kind!! And check out how the spray paint turned out on the tallest vessel...love it!!
And for our two girls who love coloring up a storm -
they now have unique pencil holders!!
I used painters tape to section off the area I wanted to paint. The smallest one I kept as it was...I kinda like it :)
And lastly, I really wanted to put spray paint to the ultimate test - so I searched high and low for the ugliest, yuckiest thing I had at home, which was this-
A liquid soap container that had one label that peeled off easily and the other I decided to leave and paint over. I sprayed it with two coats of a metal spray paint I had at home. No reason why I chose metal paint to spray plastic...I just liked the color, and it stuck really well!!
This is the sticker side showing here...I kinda mucked up hand painting a logo on the 'good' side :)
In a perfect world I would have a silhouette machine and I would custom make a mint green logo to go on the front of the soap container...but a chalkboard sticker was all I had ;)
I think it was a successful experiment! I'm now officially converted.
Hail the power of spray paint!!
Thanks again for having me Tiffany!

And now let us all repeat the Spray Painters Mantra:
Friends, help me source all the items I am searching for but can not find.
Give me the vision to think outside of the box and remember the can of spray paint,
and bless me with the patience to let each of the coats dry before I move on to the next step!
Cookies and coffee are in the back! =)

You converted me after I saw the yellow cane table! And I love how that tall vase turned out - and the half / half pottery is gorgeous!
Love that yellow cane table! Beautiful! and I've been wanting to hit up goodwill for a bunch of ugly vases and them spray paint them the same color. I definitely feel a project coming on.
Loving that yellow table - wonderful!
Love it Courts, you are very clever. My favourite it the white circular vase with the great texture.
Thanks Tiffany for having me today, and thanks for the lovely comments above!! You guys make me smile! :)
