Week 3... half way through! Since it is the beginning of a new month, I am finally able to purchase items for my master bedroom!! Oh the debit card is a little worn through! SO many goodies to be expected at my front door soon!
This week I was able to complete one of my major projects for the room.. reupholstering my grandmothers club chair. {I do have two and plan to have two in my new house, but since I only am using one in my current bedroom... I only did the one}. I am so very happy with the outcome!
This chair has seen every decade of fabric since the late 60's, but now it has taken the boat to tropical! When I first saw this fabric I fell in love... then over the last couple of weeks I was so unsure! It was a lot of color for me... and I am typically not a green person! But something about it was just calling my name!
I love the shape and the scale of these chairs. They are so comfortable, but small and compact! The chair has always had a back cushion, but over the years I have removed it to put in a decretive pillow. I thought a pop of the Chiang Mai Dragon would be perfect against the green.
I am so very happy with it.. it actually makes me want to get the other one done ASAP!
I ordered the Schumacher fabric {Betwixt Spark/Ivory} in December just because I loved it so much! It might be the most expensive fabric I have ever purchased... but so worth it! I had no plans to use it in my bedroom, but it is the perfect pop of graphic scale next to the Chiang Mai!
Since the purse strings have been loosened a little bit I was able to hit up my favorite discount fabric store for some amazing fabrics. It is hard to see, but the really dark blackish blue is very close to the color of the dragon. I love the way the design concept is coming together!
So are you ready to hear what color I decided to go on my night stands? For the most part there was an overwhelming suggestion for the peacock blue... though a lot of people couldn't really decided! I have made my choice and I am going to go with...
I think with the green chairs, the blue will be a perfect counter balance and it ties in great with the fabric! But on to my next decision!
Since I am going to be painting out my night stands, I wanted to bring in some more wood tones to offset the dresser that is going to stay wood on the other side of the room. I have had these night stands for the last 4 1/2 years and they have always had those very small lamps. In our old hour these were in front of windows.. so I never wanted them to be too high. Since we have moved I wanted to go taller, but I have never found any I really liked! The black lamps I picked up with I worked at Z Gallerie in San Francisco. They were in the basement and marked down on clearance for $5 each!!!! They have a shade, but I am using them on other lamps around the house. I have always like them black, and have been hesitant to paint them, but I am thinking they would look great in a white with a brown burlap shade. I love the idea of reusing what I have, but then I came across these...
They are reasonably priced {seriously, they are... because I hate spending more than $40 for any lamp} and I love the rattan/bamboo! I am sort of afraid they will get lost on the dark peacock blue night stand, but also think they would bring some of those wood tones over to the other side of the room. Plus the pillow and headboard scheme is so very light... so maybe it wouldn't be too heavy? I have also thought about using some rub and buff on the base to give it some definition.
So what are your thoughts? Paint out my current ones white, or purchase these beauties?
On my to do list for this week is:
Revamp the headboard
Make all new pillows for the bed
Embellish Bedskirt
SOME REMINDERS!

Wow, the chair looks amazing. Love the color and the Chiang Mai looks perfect there. Great job and I can't wait to see the nightstands.
Looks great! Love your choice of fabrics!
Love the new pillows and chair! You're right, they go together perfectly! I think you should paint the existing lamps white and then maybe get/make a shade that has wood tones or is made out of wood....I have no clue if that makes sense :).
The new "old" chair looks fabulous! I think both lamps would work well. The pop of white might be great against the blue but it would be nice to add the wood tones through a lampshade as Katy mentioned above. Looking forward to next week!
I didn't see that you mentioned what line the fabric is. I love it!! Its absolutely beautiful and I'd love to know where to get some.
those pillows are so fun and i can't wait to see the painted peacock color! :)
I love the color of that chair!!
I think I've said this a few times now, but I can't help it...I just LOVE the colors you are using!
Stacy
The chair looks awesome...love the texture in the fabric you used. The green will look great with the blue. Have you decided on the color? My new favorite peacock blue is BM Gentleman's Gray. I'm painting an armoire in my bedroom that color. Have already done a bookshelf.
Hey, I agree that you'll need some wood once the nightstands are painted. I feel like wood tones ground a space and give it richness. YOu know?? REally on the search to bring some dark wood into my living area...before I knew it, I'd filled it with metallics and painted furniture. Pretty but missing that oomph of real wood. :-)
Can't wait to follow your progress!!
You are a reupholster rock star!! seriously!! why cant you live in TX???
And Im so gland you choose the peacock blue cant wait to see it all finished!!
so glad you went with the peacock! the chairs looks amazing, by the way. you never cease to amaze me!! geez!
Love the chair! The room is going to be so resort like.
The chair looks great...especially dressed up with the chiang mai and betwixt pillows! Can't wait to see the peacock night stands. I like the new lamps...they have such a tropical feel that would look nice in your room. On the other hand, a pop of white would look good too.
The chairs are fab. Pillows give it the perfect pop! I think you should paint your current lamps. I also think you should pick up the steal-of-a-deal lamps that look great. You will have many rooms in your new home for them. I agree with the others, do something with the lampshade for woven/wood. Another busy week ahead of you.
Wow!!! I Love the chair. You did an amazing job with it! Seriously, I'm jealous!! :) Looks great and the peacock is a great choice. Go for the new lamps for sure. Totally agree with bringing in the darker wood tones to that corner of the room. Yay for you! It's totally coming together great!
Definitely get those lamps! Love them.
And seriously....you amaze me with your upholstery skills. That fabric can't have been easy to work with.
Congrats on being able to spend again :)
Your chair looks gorgeous - great job! And I love the colour. I think the new lamps are great, but I also love the idea of white lamps with the dark peacock. I know, I'm no help!
Oh my, you did such an amazing job on that chair! I am so in awe. It looks awesome. And those new lamps will look great!
Did you upholster that chair yourself???? It is stunning and the pillows look great. I have both fabrics sitting in a pile waiting to be turned into cushions so now you just might have inspired me to get working. Can't wait to see what you do with the bedroom redo!!
Love how everything is starting to come together. I think it's fantastic that you're showing everyone it can be done step-by-step so it doesn't become overwhelming. Can't wait to see what you do next!
That fabric you used on your chair is to die for lovely. Seriously beautiful color! On the lamp paint, what about considering the golden/orangish color in the dragon fabric? You're using lots of cool color and the white may not show up against your paint as well. Just a thought. Your room is going to be divine.
Love that color...makes me want to jump in the pool. We have the perfect gecko hardware for that bedside chest also. Great job!
Love the color/fabric for the chair! And the prints on the pillows are fabulous!
First of all, OH MY GOSH THE CHAIR. It's so so so good Tiffany. You nailed it! I love the color and how it looks with your pillows. Great call to use a big throw pillow instead of the cushion that comes on the chair :)
For the lamps... I hate to say this, but I think you should paint the ones you have white. The second you said white on the peacock blue I was like "YES." The rattan lamps are *beautiful* and I'm a total sucker for rattan, but I think white would just pop. Good luck deciding!
I would paint the ones you have if you really like the shape and live with them in the new room and put the money towards something else. You could always purchase different ones down the road if you are unhappy with the look. I would do that before buying new ones that you might even decide you want to redo the base with rub and buff (more money spent).
That chair looks great! I have been considering re-upholstering my sofa and this has given me the courage...now I just have to find the perfect fabric!
