Yesterday I squeezed in a little time to catch up on my email/blog reading and I came across this new fun tool by Sherwin Williams called Chip It. OH MY!!! Welcome to our new time suck!
If you are like me, you find color inspiration everywhere... but I rarely have my paint deck on me so pulling it out to create a color pallet is never going to happen. This tool lets you pick a picture anywhere on the web, click a button, and then it will create a color pallet for you! It is like having your very own Design Seeds!
Oh... and once you are done you can immediately Pin It! Crazy cool! And also... if you are not quite happy with the first set of colors it pulls from the image, there is a little button that says "More Colors" and it will expand the color selection.
Here is an example:
I love this picture and color pallet! There are so many colors... but it just pulled the teal and some muted grays. BORING! Hit the "More Colors" button...
Now if you could only move the colors around to create a five chip color selection... that would be awesome! Are you reading this Sherwin-Williams?
A few more I played with...
All of these were Pinned to my Pinterest account. I also like the fact that if you create a color pallet from a picture on web, the tool also keeps the original image location!
Alright! Start making your color pallets, but let me warn you... you will not be able to stop! You will be looking for photos just to see what color it will come up with! And then you can go to our other favorite time suck Pinterest and look at all of you amazing color pallets!

Genius! Thanks for sharing. I love that you can do it with fabrics, as well. Paint color decisions are where I usually get stuck, so this should really help!
Say what? This is freaking awesome. I will have to try it!!
What a fun tool. This would have been great for some of my art classes!
This is awesome! Will help me narrow down colors for updating our bedroom. Thanks!
great tool, thanks for sharing.
How neat! I love this idea!
Fantastic! Thank you Tiffany for sharing. As if we need something else to play around with ... but this is a good one!!
hi Tiffany ... I just heard you were sharing about ChipIt ... I hope if you have a few minutes you can read my post about the software and the issues I had experienced with it. it violates original works by attaching their swatches to other peoples' design or photography, & they don't give proper attribution by linking back to the original source material. there are also great creative compromises when it comes to color software ... thanks for your time and consideration in hearing my thoughts about it. best, Jessica (creator of Design Seeds) http://blog.seed-designs.com/2012/02/09/chipped-off.aspx
