How To... Ornament Wreath

Ok... I think I can say my Family room is completely decorated for christmas.  I can stop now!  I really wanted to hang a wreath from my starburst mirror over my couch this season, but every time I found one {yes I was will to buy one and save me some time} it was too big, or too small, or not the colors I was looking for.  So... like most things it is better if I just make it myself.

I am very happy with the end result, but this project just drove me a little insane!  I will say that it wasn't that hard, but I had to be patient... and as you may know by now that is not my strongest trait!

I picked up a foam wreath at Joanns and then headed to the dollar store for all of my ornaments.  Those long tubes of 8 - 10 balls were only $1!  I also picked up some ornaments at Big Lots; $3 for 8.  Super cheap!

I used the floral wire I had from the $ store to make a hanging loop.

Then I removed all of the hanging attachments and began glueing and then sticking them in the foam.  I was planning on using hot glue, but I didn't have any glue sticks =(.  So I used E600 that works amazing, but you just have to wait for it to dry!  That is why I had to be patient... I had to wait for the sections to dry to add on.

I started with the bigger ornaments; randomly placed...

Then I thought I should make a foundation on the outside and the inside.

Once that was done it was a lot easier to glue other balls to the foundation.  Keep on layering and layering until there are no empty holes.  I also had to use some very small balls that I had on hand to fill in some space.

I just added the perfect holiday touch above the couch!  Yes I still haven't shopped.. incase you were wondering!

Beautiful, but I would never have had the patience to wait for the glue to dry!

Love, love, love it! I've been thinking about making one for myself, and I do love to hang wreaths over mirrors! How did you attach it to the mirror?

I made one of these this year as well and it's my favorite new Christmas decoration! I love seeing everyone's different variations of them. They are so personalized! You can see mine here: http://www.lifeonmarsblog.net/2011/12/vintage-ornament-wreath.html

What a gorgeous wreath. The only way I knew how to do this is really difficult. I will have to make this next year. xo

Wow, I really like that ornament wreath. My daughter is making a Saints one as I write this!!

BTW, I just googled how to add a printer friendly button to blogger and it gave me instructions on how to do it. I don't really remember the site. I added it back in Feb. Hopefully this will help.

Merry Christmas!!
